I approached the self-evaluation with self-reflection and honesty. The reflection gave me a greater understanding of my areas to improve to be as successful as possible.
After completing the assignment “What is AI?” I learned more about the truth of AI. Like many others, AI has raised concerns and worries because I need to understand its complexities/capabilities. In the film M3GAN, an AI doll named Megan is programmed to be a little girl’s friend and protect her from the harm in life. Megan misconstrues the meaning of this phrase because it is not a human and cannot distinguish boundaries. Megan ends up violently harming people to protect the little girl, and when it is eventually destroyed…the movie doesn’t end there. Megan takes its command to the extreme and sinks itself onto a Bluetooth speaker. This is an example of artificial intelligence in fiction and film that is unrealistic and propaganda for the fears associated with AI.
“AI Doom” is a critical topic that is essential to consider in terms of AI-generated tools. Janelle Shane’s reasonings for an example of “AI Doom” include flawed data, too-difficult tasks, and sneaky shortcuts. Gathering data and using it to predict the future can form several biases that impact individuals in marginalized groups because all of the data that AI obtains is from humans. Humans are engrained with biases, making it difficult for AI tools to be seamlessly neutral in their outputs.
